EDC

A topic we hear a lot in the firearm community is EDC.  EDC stands for Every Day Carry.  What is your every day carry?  For some women it could be that one purse or bag that they can’t leave home without.  In this instance it means what is your personal protection item or items that you carry every day.  Depending on where you live or your age, it could be pepper spray, a knife, a kuboton, your keys, a taser. a stun gun, or even a handgun.

Although I obtained my conceal carry license in 2013, I didn’t start to carry my handun with me until 2018.  In November of 2018 I bought myself a kydex holster from Celtic Holsters.  This is an inside the waist band holster, also referred to as an IWB holster.  Now on my days off, whenever I leave the house I wear my kydex holster and carry my Ruger LCP in 380.  I also carry a Kershaw knife in my pocket. My knife has a part smooth and part serrated blade.  Serrated means it has a jagged edge like a saw. I include my phone as part of my EDC because I use the flashlight on my phone all the time. If I ever have that uneasy feeling I call someone to tell them where I am and that we don’t have to talk but that for my safety I want someone to know where I am. They can be listening on speakerphone, that way, if something where to happen they, could get me help.  In addition to these items I use a metal pen as part of my every day carry.  If used correctly a pen can be used to injure an attacker enough to allow me to get away while also collecting DNA for the authorities.   The same goes for your keys.  Placing your keys between your fingers and making a fist with the pointy edge of the key facing outward can be enough to cause injury to a person trying to attack you, allowing you to get away.

As you can tell I don’t carry a lot of items in my EDC. However, I can use each one of them to protect myself and my family should I need to.  It’s very important that no matter what you carry you are able to effectively use it otherwise it is of no good to you and could ultimately be used against you.   Don’t be afraid to search training centers, shooting leagues and/ or organizations in your local area.
